The rules of online gaming

Recently I’ve been playing a lot of online gaming, both on my Nintendo DS (Zelda and Mario Kart mostly) and on my Xbox 360 (Halo 3, Pro Evo Soccer and Dead or Alive 4). Online games are great but some people do ruin the game for me. People that call you a “noob” just because you lost a match make me quite angry. Anyway, I found a great, rather tongue in cheek post today entitled “Ten golden rules of online gaming”, have a read:

“People who are new to a particular game are terrible vermin who you should not fraternise with. These subhumans are known as noobs and they are the pariahs of online gaming. You, however, were never a noob. You were playing games online before the Internet was even invented. In fact, you’re so awesome that you were playing Dizzy the Egg team deatchmatches on your Commodore 64. ”

Top 10 games for the DS, Ever.

Top 10 games for the DS, Ever.

Lists are great aren’t they? Ok, now everyone’s taste is different, so below you will find my very own personal list of the best DS games ever. Obviously this list will be outdated at some point, but so far there are thousands of games to choose from, and I think most people will agree that I have listed some great ones here.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Why its so good: Well the single player game is wicked to say the least but multilayer rocks! The only downside is that people cheat and turn their DS off when they lose, thus depriving you of your well earned points! Read the full review here.

2. Mario Kart
Why its so good: Fast frantic game play and brilliant multilayer will keep you playing for hours.

3. New Super Mario Bros.
Why its so good: In a word, Mario. A great take on the old school Mario games adding a pseudo-3d visual style and great game play. Unlocking all of the levels can be pretty taxing!

4 Worms: Open Warfare 2
Why its so good: Multi-player games are brilliant and there’s a load of depth and variety of gameplay. Read the full review here.

5 Big Brain Academy.
Why its so good: The is a very personal; choice but I could never get into the other brain games, they seem like they are trying too hard, when I personally doubt how much brain improvement can be done with a game. This is a fun way to tone you thinking muscles!

6 Mario 64 DS
Why its so good: when Mario 64 game out many years ago on the infamous Nintendo 64 people knew what a great game this is. The tweak version is great fun on the DS although the controls take a while to get used to.

7 Yoshi’s Island 2
Why its so good: I love Mario style platformers and this game is pretty close to the sort of thing I’m after. I got bored halfway though so its not as great as some of the games listed above.

8 Contra 4 DS
Why its so good: It brings me back to the years when computer games were the most important thing in my life. Sadly I was a lot better at games back then and this game is too hard for me now! Boo hoo! Anyway you can download the rom here

9 Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Why its so good: A lot of people think this is the best game on the DS, I personally think its a pretty good tactical game, not the best game o9ut there though.

10 Mario Party DS
Why its so good: Lots of fun with loads and loads of mini games. Its much better to play with real people and with no wifi mode, this lowers my score.

Well there you go, that’s my list. Have I missed any? Mortal Kombat just missed 10th place, whats your top 10?

Hey Nintendo! Bring out some good games!

I know we have Contra 4 which is great (very hard though!). We also have Mortal Kombat which I think is an equally good game, and its fantastic online! But apart from that, I haven’t seen any good games come out for a while. I am kind of looking forward to Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games which due out soon, but that’s all. There are dozens upon dozens or horsey games, virtual pets and even a few about looking after babies. Look, I know the DS is primarily a kids system, but come on, how many variations of the same game do they need?

Disappointed with online Modchip Stores

As some of you may know I have recently ordered an EZ Flash 3 in 1 tool for my Nintendo DS. Well that’s not strictly true. I have now ordered two of them. The first one was ordered quite some time ago and I still haven’t received it. I am filing a case with PayPal so I can’t give any more details until the case has been resolved and I have been refunded.

I’m not 100% happy with the service I have received from the other store either, but again I will give this more time before writing a full review on these stores and of course the 3 in 1 tool itself.

I guess the real problem here is that many of the bigger and better known stores like to steer clear from modchips, flash cards and anything that could void the warranty of a games console. There has always been a link between emulation and piracy, so really I can’t blame them for making that decision.

With the void of these bigger, well established online shops and stores we are left with the only people willing to take the risk in selling such products, the small or one man band companies. Unfortunately, a lot of these people don’t seem to have the staff, training or systems in place to make the process of actually ordering a product and receiving it easy. I am not criticising all small online shops, far from it: I think its a great thing, but I really believe a bit more effort in the customer services department wouldn’t go a miss. I guess this is probably true for bigger stores also. To me, and I believe most shoppers, whether its online or down the local high street, decent customer services is of vital importance. Read more
